Pest Of The Month: Spotted Wing Drosophila

Spotted wing drosophila (SWD) is becoming a serious insect pest in commercial production of berries and several other crops. A multi-state effort is underway with state small fruit Extension specialists and the EPA to review short-term and long-term needs for insecticides to control SWD and determine where labeling can be expanded.

Michigan State University Extension is asking for information about raspberry and blackberry growers’ experiences with SWD to help support requests to EPA for expanded insecticide labeling to control SWD. This information will also be valuable to provide background information for grants supporting research to guide management recommendations.

All information collected will be summarized and the summary information will be shared with participants. Individual growers will not be identified in the summary and their identity will remain confidential.

The SWD survey can be completed online. To take the survey, go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GTF36QL.
