Citrus greening has been confirmed in Mexico for the first time. The disease was found in 51 trees on the country’s western coast. The discovery has California citrus growers worried.

The infected trees are in the states Jalisco and Nayarit, which is about 750 miles from the Mexican border with California. Mexican officials have notified the California citrus industry of the find. Greening’s vector, the Asian citrus psyllid, was discovered in California last year and many fear that it is only a matter of time before greening will be discovered in the state.
