Peach breeder Paul Friday of Flamin' Fury Peaches in Coloma, MI, was recently recognized by the National Peach Council (NPC) as its Distinguished Service Award winner. The award was presented during a banquet at the Mid-Atlantic Fruit & Vegetable Convention in Hershey, PA, in early February. A former NPC president, Friday is the developer of the Flamin' Fury peach series which now spans a 15-week growing period. The Flamin' Fury Series has been an ongoing breeding program that has made a vast number of genetic crosses in the past 27 years. Over time 31 varieties have been selected, patented, and released. The Flamin' Fury Series now features and promotes 21 varieties that have been selected as the very best, with many outstanding new selections replacing older varieties for their same riping time frame.
