Florida Citrus Community Loses Longtime Leader to Leukemia

According to a member alert sent out by the Highlands County Citrus Growers Association (HCCGA), John Merritt, longtime production manager of Ft. Myers, FL-based Consolidated Citrus, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, after battling with leukemia. He was 60.

Merritt had been with Consolidated Citrus LP, a division of King Ranch, for the past 30 years. The memo recalled Merritt as an innovative grower and active industry leader. “Among his industry leadership service was a stint on the HCCGA Board of Directors, where his counsel was always valued,” the memo stated.
