A team of researchers at the University of California, Riverside have developed a molecular mechanism that aids in the resistance and susceptibility to a common fungus associated with wilt in susceptible tomato plants.

The researchers compared two different tomato varieties — one susceptible to the fungus Fusarium oxysporum, and another that was resistant — focusing on the plants microRNA’s, or small molecules that regulate the expression of certain genes.
