More Than 600,000 Acres Removed From Golden Nematode Regulation In New York

USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced earlier this month that more than 600,000 acres in New York will be removed from the existing golden nematode regulated area effective immediately. The removal was made according to the criteria set forth in the “Canada and United States Guidelines on Surveillance and Phytosanitary Actions for the Potato Cyst Nematodes, Globodera rosochiensis and Globodera pallida.”

According to USDA, APHIS has removed 364,137 acres from the golden nematode regulated area in New York since 2010. With this action, APHIS has removed a total of 964,661 acres from regulation.

Of the remaining 312,708 acres that APHIS regulates in eight counties, the agency considers 5,985 acres to be infested and have an active control and mitigation program in place to prevent the spread of golden nematode.
