“This is indeed a humbling experience for me, and I feel honored to have followed in the footsteps of other outstanding apple growers,” said Tougas in accepting the award.

“Mo has been driven by a need to keep learning, in particular to learn more about how to grow, and sell, the best apples you possibly can,” said Brian Sparks, editor of American Fruit Grower, in presenting the award. “Through his involvement in organizations such as the International Fruit Tree Association and USApple’s Research Committee, this learning process continues.”

“Mo is recognized by the industry as an observant and skilled horticulturist, who continues to demonstrate enthusiastic commitment to the industry.” said Lars Swanson, portfolio manager for DuPont Rynaxypyr, which sponsored the award.

Now in its 23rd year, the Apple Grower of the Year is designed to recognize growers who are skilled, progressive horticulturists and who demonstrate leadership through their involvement in industry associations.
