Penn State University To Present IPM Scouting Program For Young Growers

Penn State University Extension will present a networking session for young growers featuring hands-on training on scouting orchards for insects, mites, beneficials, and diseases.

This session will be held July 16 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Penn State Fruit Research and Extension Center, 290 University Drive, Biglerville, PA 17307.

Presentations will be given by Kari Peter, Penn State plant pathologist and David Biddinger, Penn State University entomologist.Bottom of Form

Peter will focus on scouting for apple scab. She will demonstrate:

  • Monitoring rainfall and duration of wetness
  • Scouting for lesions on leaves and fruit
  • Maintaining scouting reports for individual orchard blocks

Biddinger will discuss European red mite monitoring and biological control in orchards. He will discuss:
