Washington Tree Fruit Industry Makes “Apple Cup Scholarship” Donation

While the University of Washington (UW) and Washington State University (WSU) football players battled on the field in an annual cross-state football rivalry, Washington’s tree fruit industry made sure students came out on top. The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) made $5,000 donations to each of the scholarship funds at UW and WSU in honor of the “Apple Cup” game. The annual donation, titled the Apple Cup Scholarship, was presented at half-time of the football game. WSU President Elson Floyd and Mike Gregoire, husband of Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire, presided over the half-time ceremonial check presentation. WAEF scholarship contributions are awarded by each university to recipients demonstrating scholastic success and overall merit.
