Over the course of the past three months, escalating trade tensions have resulted in new or threatened tariffs on American agricultural exports from China. Of particular concern to California farmers are roughly $3 billion in new Chinese tariffs that were put into place on April 2. Those tariffs are retaliation for U.S. tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum from China. The $3 billion in Chinese tariffs affect many products grown in California, including grapes, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and oranges.

Farmers for Free Trade has also released a report ahead of Thursday’s event that highlights the impact of the new tariffs on commodities and states.

Thursday’s event will be held at LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards in Acampo to reinforce the negative impacts on wine exports. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., other speakers include:

  • Jamie Johansson, President, California Farm Bureau Federation
  • Brian Kuehl, Executive Director, Farmers for Free Trade
  • Randy Lange , Co-Owner, LangeTwins Family Winery and Vineyards
  • Jeff Colombini, President, Lodi Farming Company
  • Rob Neenan, President and CEO, California League of Food Processors
