Cold air is expected to hit the northern part of the Mid-Atlantic as well. According to the report, damaging freezes and cold is possible for the Upper Midwest and Northeast.

Fruit trees are anywhere from two to four weeks earlier than last year, thanks to a warm winter and warmer temperatures.

Accuweather reports highs during the first week of April are likely in the 20s and 30s from Western and Northern New York to New England.

“Instead of a week’s worth of arctic air, there may only be three to five days, on average, where temperatures are 10-20 degrees below normal in the northern tier,” AccuWeather Long-Range Meteorologist Joe Lundberg said of the Midwest.

Squash Growers Weigh in on Current State of the Crop

David Rosenberger discussed scab development on his blog. With warm temperatures in the forecast for the last few days of March, he suggested growers follow weather forecasts for infection possibilities.

“The first scab infection period of the year may occur later this week in the Hudson Valley, but  the probabilities of that happening depend on which weather forecast you prefer to believe,” he writes. “The weather variable is the critical factor regardless of what model or predictive system you might be using.”

Earlier this month he suggested trees were not far enough along to have an infection threat.
