Duarte Nursery Red Blotch-Tested And Clean

Duarte Nursery has taken a pro-active approach in reacting to the newly detected disease “grapevine red blotch” (grapevine red blotch-associated virus GRBaV). The outcomes of these actions have resulted in Duarte Nursery being able to state that its nursery materials are red blotch tested and clean.
 
Two months ago, a red blotch marker was revealed and testing for the disease can be conducted prior to purchasing new grapevines. This testing allows for Duarte Nursery to reassure its current and future customers that its grapevine selections are ultra clean.
 
Duarte Nursery’s research staff has tested more than 250 selections, testing five vines from each selection. Duarte Nursery has tested more than 1,250 individual vines, which is continuing to grow as more research is conducted. Less than 4% of these vines have come back with a positive result for red blotch disease. Any vines that have tested positive have been eliminated from nursery production and will not be shipped to customers. Additionally, Duarte Nursery has not had any positive test results from primary or secondary increase blocks; thus, assuring clean selections for future plantings.
 
Duarte Nursery’s commitment to disease research and clean plants has allowed the nursery the ability to eliminate red blotch disease from any nursery stock that will be shipped to customers in 2013 and moving forward. Duarte Nursery will continue to test and survey in order to deliver the cleanest plant material possible.
