That’s what bothers Sandro and Karim Saade are doing, according to a report this week from Reuters.

The brothers grow their grapes on a hillside in the Syrian province of Latakia, close to the Mediterranean Sea. The Romans reportedly first grew grapes on the property two millennia ago.

The vineyard, Syria’s last commercial vineyard remaining open since the war started in 2011, definitely yields quality grapes. The wines they produce at Domaine de Bargylus are served in the Michelin-starred restaurants of Paris and London.
