“This is not a surprise for us,” said Vicky Scharlau, executive director of the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers.

The article estimates that new wineries in the state open at a rate of 40 per year, and the continued growth helps account for a $8.6 billion industry.

“We’re still continuing to expand and write contracts for more grapes,” Kevin Corliss, vice president of vineyards for Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, says in the report.
