According to the nursery’s marketing director, Dustin Hooper, Barnes is not afraid to shake things up. Burnes touched on a few topics in a recent company newsletter.

On Challenges: “We’re definitely striving to fight the viruses and provide the cleanest materials in the industry. But we’re also looking at the business through the grower’s lens and understanding all the areas where we can — and will — be better.”

To Customers: “It’s so important for us to listen so that we can know their expectations and get them the right product at the right time. We aren’t stuck on any preconceptions; we’re eager to do whatever it takes to remain relevant with our valued customers.”

Our Vision: “We’re working on many exciting new projects. Having come from a different part of ag — almonds, pistachios and citrus — I can bring a fresh set of eyes. And I can tell you that we are really stepping up our game. You will see substantial differences in our company over the next 6 to 12 months. And I think you’re really going to like what you see.”

In addition to Burnes, Brad Kroeker is coming board as the new quality control manager. He has big plans to optimize production, minimize pathogenic impact and create an environment of product confidence. Raised on a farm and having degrees in biology and crop science, Kroeker says he lives and breathes the nursery business.

“We are totally committed to keeping our plants vigorous, healthy and free off contamination,” he says. “We will have industry-leading quality checks.”

One of Kroeker’s first orders of business will be finalizing preparations for the nursery’s new testing lab, which is up and ready to go. The advance lab will help ensure quality control.
