Purdue University Organizing Tour Of New Zealand Tree Fruit Industry

Two Purdue University tree fruit experts are coordinating an upcoming tour of New Zealand’s fruit industry. The tour will take place Feb. 6-20, 2014, and will be led by Dr. Peter Hirst, professor of horticulture at Purdue, and Dr. Rick Foster, professor of entomology.

The tour will showcase all aspects of the New Zealand tree fruit industry, in addition to the beautiful local scenery. Highlights include:
• Some of the highest producing apple orchards in the world
• Packing, distribution, and marketing aspects of the industry
• Kiwifruit, winegrape, and vegetable production
• Glow worm caves in Waitomo
• A chance to explore Wellington, the capital city
• A Cook Strait ferry to the South Island

In addition, attendees can also sign up for an optional three-day tour of Australia at an additional cost.
