Large Cherry Crop Expected In Washington

Columbia Basin Herald reports Washington state’s cherry crop is expected to be the largest or second largest, according to B.J. Thurlby, president of the Washington Fruit Commission.

Thurlby said 23.5 million boxes of cherries were sold during the state’s season and that figure would make it the largest crop. He did say some of the cherries packed in Washington are grown in Oregon, though.

“Over 60 days we moved 20 million boxes. Normally that’s a 90-day season. Growers really did a great of job of adjusting to the playing field they were on,” Thurlby said.
