Washington Apple Education Foundation Recognizes Scholarship Recipients

The Washington Apple Education Foundation (WAEF) recently recognized its scholarship recipients at the 8th Annual WAEF Scholarship Celebration Luncheons. The luncheons were held on two dates at the Wenatchee Convention Center and the Yakima Convention Center. More than 600 students, parents, donors, and guests attended the events, which were presented by Northwest Farm Credit Services.

Gloria Ochoa, a current private practice attorney and an adjunct professor at Gonzaga University served as a keynote speaker at the Wenatchee luncheon. Richard Tait, creator of the board game Cranium and co-founder of Golazo, was the keynote speaker at Yakima luncheon.

In addition to serving as a send-off to college-bound youth, the scholarship luncheons raised more than $40,000 for the WAEF scholarship program through sponsorships and donations.

WAEF gave students raised in tree fruit districts scholarships valued at nearly $650,000. Scholarship funds are raised through voluntary donations with several awards sponsored annually by the tree fruit industry.
