Washington Winery Sustainability Sessions Slated

This July, Winerywise is hosting three separate sessions to educate participants on results of the 2012 year-long winery sustainability trials, and an examination of the sustainability of current winery practices.

The first session will be held at Walla Walla Community College July 23 at 2 p.m. The other two sessions will be held at Yakima Valley Community College on July 24 at 9 a.m. and Chateau St Michelle Winery in Woodinville on July 25 starting at 10 a.m. The session in Woodinville includes a tour of the winery and wine tasting.

During the two-hour sessions guests will hear from speakers including Winerywise Steering Committee member and consulting winemaker Judy Thoet, Washington State University professor and Extension enologist Jim Harbertson, Kennedy/Jenks Consultants senior scientist Stuart Childs, and Low Input Viticulture and Enology (LIVE) executive director Chris Serra.

On top of the trial results, guests will have the opportunity to hear about the science behind sustainability as well as a convenient approach to becoming compliant with employee health and safety rules and practices. Winerywise is a fundamental guide to sustainability and includes many topics, information, and assessments found in third party certifications like LIVE, Salmon-Safe and the Carbon Reduction Challenge.
