A limited edition print of Jan Cook Mack’s “Stand By Me Reds” painting will be distributed to those attending the Washington State Horticultural Association’s annual meeting banquet on Tuesday, Dec. 2, which is sponsored by Western Fruit Grower magazine. Jan has been providing a limited edition print to those attending the banquet for the past 10 years. The prints are made from oil paintings she has painted on site in the fruit growing farmland where she lives. Stand By Me Reds

“Stand By Me Reds” was painted in Stumpf Orchard of Wenatchee, WA, next to the studio of artist Jan Cook Mack just before the harvest began.

“Painting onsite allows the energy of a place to fully enter the artwork and give voice to invisible forces,” she says. “I like painting fruit on the tree right before it is picked, and blossoms during their brief span in the orchard. Then I work on larger paintings from photographs later.”

About The Artist
Jan grew up in the U.S. and Taiwan, and received her fine arts degree from Bennington College in Vermont. She established herself as an artist in New York City before moving to eastern Washington in 1986.

Since 1986, she has painted landscapes of Wenatchee Valley, the alpine area, and of the shrub steppe. Her 125-foot-long mural on Yakima St. in Wenatchee depicts how water was channeled in irrigation ditches to create blooming orchards out of which the community grew. In 2010, Jan was awarded a Stanley Lifetime Achievement Award.

She has official portraits hanging in the Vermont Statehouse. Her work is collected by Bankers Trust, Exxon, and IBM, and is displayed in numerous corporate headquarters.

Jan Cook Mack welcomes visitors to tour her Studio Gallery at 529 Easy Street, Wenatchee, WA 98801. Call 509-662-8383 for an appointment, or contact her at [email protected]. You may also view her work at the Confluence Technology Center in Wenatchee.
