Eric Halverson has taken over the role of chief executive officer of potato grower-shipper Black Gold Farms. The position was previously held by his father, Gregg Halverson.

Eric, who had been Grand Forks, ND-based Black Gold’s executive vice president of technology, succeeded his father Oct. 23. Gregg has retained his position as president of the company’s board of directors.

According to Eric, the succession has been planned as Gregg recently celebrated his 65th birthday. Eric says his father will not be as integrally involved in the day-to-day operations as he was previously.

Some awards and honors Eric has received include being selected “grower leader” of the Potato Industry Leadership Institute. He recently represented North Dakota on the U.S. Potato Board and was elected to the board’s administrative committee.
