LGMA Members Get High Marks In Food Safety

The California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement (LGMA) released its 2014/15 Annual Report that details results of the mandatory government audits conducted during this past fiscal year. The findings indicate that out of nearly 75,000 food safety checkpoints audited, a total of 370 citations were issued. According to the LGMA, this is the lowest number of citations issued in the history of the LGMA, and represents less than half a percent of the total checkpoints verified during all LGMA audits.

The LGMA system, however, requires that all citations be corrected. So, in the end, the compliance rate for the LGMA audit is actually 100%. However, analyzing and publishing information on the numbers and kinds of citations issued allows the LGMA to accomplish additional tasks. First, that the group is transparent in reporting information on audits to the public. And, secondly, the LGMA uses the information as a guide for the LGMA Tech training program so it can focus these efforts to the areas where it’s most needed.

According to LGMA’s website, tech training is targeted at supervisor and/or lead food safety personnel who are responsible for ensuring that all workers are adequately trained in their company’s food safety program and the LGMA food safety practices.
