Text Messaging, Twitter Are New Options For Potato Disease Hotlines

Syngenta Crop Protection is partnering with five universities located in key potato growing regions to bring blight hotlines to potato growers in 2010. New to the hotlines this year are options for text messaging and Twitter notifications.

Beginning in May, growers can call the toll-free hotlines and receive information on weather patterns, recommended control measures, and disease infection confirmations. And now, growers can receive reminders via text message when the hotline has been updated by texting the state-specific keyword below to 97063. Plus, Syngenta will be tweeting from @SyngentaSpuds as another vehicle for hotline updates and the latest Syngenta potato news.

The hotlines are managed by researchers at the University of Idaho, Washington State University, Oregon State University, North Dakota State University, and Michigan State University and will be accessible around the clock.

The potato blight hotlines are available by calling:
