Even though it’s been nearly 20 years since the state buyout dealings of Florida muck farmers in and around Zellwood to restore the land around Lake Apopka, plenty of memories remain.
To celebrate and reminisce about the positive accomplishments of the farms and farmers on the muck prior to the buyout, the Zellwood Historical Society is hosting a program called Zellwood Muck Farmers Forum on April 27 at the Zellwood Community Center.
The free event is open to the public. Anyone who was involved in Zellwood farming is encouraged to attend and to bring any memorabilia they have, according to Marjorie Grinnell of the Zellwood Historical Society.
The highlight of the program will include a panel discussion featuring farmers with deep roots including: Neil Stoothoff, Ervin Sharpless, David Hill, and Hank Scott. The panel will moderated by Charlie Grinnell Jr.
Social time will start at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7:00.
