Three new sweet corn varieties and a short day onion are available from Crookham Co. The first sweet corn, Profit has large ears, good husk protection, and good tip fill. This variety has intermediate resistance to common rust, Stewart’s wilt, and northern corn leaf blight (NCLB).

A consistent producer, Silver Duchess is a large, bright white ear that comes from a rugged plant with great adaptability. A high-yielder, it also has an intermediate resistance to common rust, Stewart’s wilt, and NCLB.

The third sweet corn variety, Ka-Ching, displays a nice package in its tip fill, husk protection, and eating quality. The uniformity of the ears, in size, placement, and maturity, lends itself to machine harvesting.

Moving away from sweet corn, Somerset (1113) is a main to late-season variety from part of the Celebrate Onion Line that has a nice, deep, globe-shaped bulb, which is not only appealing to the eye, but provides the grower with improved yields. Somerset also has a high tolerance to pink root, fusarium, and bolting.
