Potato Field Day To Focus On Seed Lot Evaluations, Crop Protection

Potato growers in Washington State can learn about IPM recommendations as well as hear results of commercial potato seed lot evaluations at the annual Washington State University (WSU) Potato Field Day.

Slated to be held Thursday, June 25, the field day will be held at the WSU Othello Research Unit on W. Cox Rod in Othello.

Highlights featured in two concurrent sessions include:

  • National Tuber Necrotic Virus Project: How the industry can help ensure appropriate outcomes;
  • WSU Potato Pest Alerts – Regional Pest Information and IPM-based Recommendations;
  • Phosphorus Research Updates;
  • National Tuber Necrotic Virus Project: How the industry can help ensure appropriate outcomes;
  • The Potential Effect of Rotation Crop and Weeds on Verticillium wilt of potato;
  • Late Blight Outlook 2015; and
  • Insect management strategies in potatoes.

In addition, a mini workshop will be held on personal protective equipment (PPE). Called “Demystifying PPE Selection, Respirator Use Requirements, and Decontamination Supplies” the presentation will be given by Tom Hoffmann from the Washington State Department of Agriculture and Bob Kenner of Norco, Inc., a supplier of welding, safety, and medical products.
