Sakata Seed America Set For Florida Watermelon Trials

Bold Ruler SakataSakata Seed America Inc. will host its Florida Watermelon Trials June 10-12 in High Springs. This event will be a focal point for people in the industry to visit with Sakata product managers, sales, and R&D staff. Visitors will learn more about the benefits of Sakata’s programs and what’s happening in the watermelon world.

The Florida Watermelon Trials are a place for growers to compare various competitive varieties of Sakata watermelons side-by-side. Sakata will display new varieties, along with well-known grower, retailer ,and consumer favorites. Some tried-and-true varieties that are included in the field are Citation, Bold Ruler, Affirmed, and Ace (Sakata’s number one pollinator).

In recent years, a renewed R&D effort on Sakata’s part has led to a resurgence of new hybrids including the new Charismatic, Unbridled, Kingman, and Secretariat triploid varieties, as well as the new pollinizer, Wild Card. The new foursome of triploid watermelons represent the next generation in breeding.
