Some tried-and-true varieties that are included in the field are Citation, Bold Ruler, Affirmed, and Ace (Sakata’s number one pollinator).
In recent years, a renewed R&D effort on Sakata’s part has led to a resurgence of new hybrids including the new Charismatic, Unbridled, Kingman, and Secretariat triploid varieties, as well as the new pollinizer, Wild Card. The new foursome of triploid watermelons represent the next generation in breeding.
