EPA has been reassessing exemptions from tolerances for inert ingredients in crop protection products to make sure they meet safety standards established by the Food Quality Protection Act. After completing reassessments last year, EPA has announced that several inert ingredients are now prohibited under the NOP.

The list of ingredients that have been revoked from use in crop protection formulations includes: Acetylated lanolin alcohol; Acrylic acid methyl ester, polymer with acrylonitrile and 1,3-butadiene; Coumarone – indene resin; Manganous oxide; Pentaerythritol monostearate; Pentaerythritol tetrastearate; Polyglyceryl phthalate ester of coconut oil fatty acid; and Sodium fluoride.

The Inerts List system may no longer be effective or available for the NOP to reference the Regulations. The EPA review and labeling program for determining the compatibility of crop protectants with the Regulations also has been impacted.
