Less than two weeks after Florida marked the grand opening of the state’s first medicinal cannabis dispensary, another dispensing organization has been given the green light to conduct business.

Surterra Therapeutics, a division of Alpha Foliage, completed deliveries of its therapeutic cannabis products to a patient in the Tampa area as well as to one outside of Orlando. The Tampa-based operation is now able to deliver products to eligible patients throughout the state.

Surterra Therapeutics is one of six nurseries that were awarded exclusive licenses to grow, process, and dispense low-THC/CBD (non-euphoric) cannabis products approved for patients with cancer or a condition that causes chronic seizures or muscle spasms. In addition to the non-euphoric strain, eligible nurseries can provide a stronger strain of “medical cannabis” if a patient is suffering from a condition determined to be terminal by two physicians.

Susan Driscoll, President of Surterra, was on hand for the deliveries. “Surterra is proud to be able to help Florida patients find relief,” she said.

Dr. Joseph Rosado, an Orlando-area recommending physician, commented, “I am proud this day is finally here and I hope more patients can have access to options like this in the future.”

The remaining dispensing organizations are slated to come online soon with final approval from the Florida Department of Health.
