Seed Trials – Syngenta - Fascination Watermelon

James Brusca, Syngenta Breeder – Watermelons discusses the key attributes of  the Fascination variety at the company’s seed trial in Woodland, CA. Fascination was first introduced three  years ago, and has taken a significant share of the market and demand is still increasing in several parts of the country. Today, about 15,000 acres have been planted in the U.S., 2/3 in the East and 1/3 in the West. It has a nice combination of grower and consumer traits, great disease resistance and field performance for the grower, and super-sweet, dark red flesh that contrasts nicely with the white rind and a wonderful watermelon flavor for the consumer.
