Florida Citrus Forecast Comes Full Circle With Latest Update

Typical Florida citrus seasons have their fair share of ups and downs. The 2016-2017 campaign so far certainly is no different. Through the first half of the season, the all-orange forecast figures from USDA have gone up, ran flat, and now back down.

So, according to the latest crop estimate, we’re right back where we started at 70 million boxes (35 million boxes of early, midseason, Navel, and Temple varieties; plus 35 million boxes of Valencias). With the slight dip in non-Valencia fruit for February, the updated number represents a 1% drop from last month’s prediction.

The forecast for Florida grapefruit remained steady at 9 million boxes.

USDA is scheduled to drop its next crop report March 9.
