Organic Food Sales Near $50 Billion Mark
Organic sales experienced more year-over-year growth in 2018, according to figures in the 2019 Organic Industry Survey released by the Organic Trade Association (OTA). OTA says figures for total organic sales hit $52.3 billion in 2018, up 6.3% from the previous year.
According to the survey, organic food sales reached $47.9 billion in 2018, an increase of 5.9% over 2017 sales.
OTA says fruits and vegetables now account for 36.3% of all organic food sales. And, organic fruits and vegetables account for 14.6% of all produce sold in the U.S.
Organic produce such as carrots, greens, apples, bananas, berries, avocados, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mangoes, and papayas are among some of the top sellers in the supermarket. OTA also says frozen, canned, and dried vegetable and fruit sections experienced sales growth.
