Cantaloupe Food Safety Tool Launched



Since the devastating listeria outbreak last year in cantaloupes, growers and industry have anticipated much tighter scrutiny on food safety practices. But, they are not sitting on the sidelines as new rules are written and have been actively involved in developing a new guidance document for good agricultural practices (GAPs) and good manufacturing practices (GMPs) in cantaloupe production and handling.

To facilitate the process a website has been established where growers can review and comment on past cantaloupe guidance documents for GAPs and GMPs, as well as the document currently being developed. The new National Cantaloupe Guidance site can be found at
