Prosecutors say the two men had accumulated 1,200 hives worth more than $200,000. Previously, authorities had valued the thefts at close to a $1 million.

The thefts had been a problem for more than a year, with beekeepers reporting hive thefts throughout the Central Valley.

The beehives were stolen from 10 beekeepers over two years, the LA Times reports. Most of the stolen hives were from out-of-state beekeepers who rented their colonies to growers to pollinate their crops.
