Emerging Crop Protection Intel From California Keys in on Top Fungicides

Meister Media’s PURE Intel™ platform update has revealed a clear fungicide winner in 2025 market share through May. UPL’s Microthiol Disperss has claimed ~9% of the market (defined as share of treated acres) with the next nearest brand BASF’s Merivon Xemium Brand Fungicide carrying ~4% of the market. What are the other top fungicides being used by California growers?

Here are the top 5 fungicide brands so far:

Microthiol Disperss (UPL) 775,960 treated acres (~9% market share)
Merivon Xemium Brand Fungicide (BASF) 397,187 treated acres  (~4.3%)
Miravis Prime (Syngenta) 306,204 treated acres (~3.4%)
Wilbur-Ellis Dusting Sulfur 255,451 treated acres (~2.8%)
Luna Sensation (Bayer Crop Science) 238,179 treated acres (~2.6%)

There has been a small decrease of ~3.5% in the overall fungicide market for 2025 through May. Fungicides treated 9.1 million acres in 2025 through the first reporting of growers’ pesticide use reports (PURs) compared to 9.4 million acres in 2024 during the January-May timeframe.

When it comes to herbicides, there has been an uptick in treated acres by 5% as well as an 8% uptick in insecticides treated acres through the first reporting. These two increases net more total treated acres than lost by the fungicides so the total number of treated acres across all product categories through the first five months of 2025 represents a 3% year-over-year increase. In fact, the total number of treated acres reported by growers through May 31 represents the most since 2022 as crop protection activity in the Sunshine State continues recovering from the drought-driven declines of 2022 and 2023.
