Watch As Organic Weed Control Comes Natural for This Almond Grower (Video)

No matter where you farm, weeds will find you. And with the growing problem of herbicide resistance, more produce growers are looking for different ways to manage weeds. One such farm operation that has found success in its approach is Burroughs Family Orchards.

The 1,200-acre almond orchard in Denair, CA, takes a unique perspective on weeds. Farm managers at Burroughs Family Orchards “think of the vegetation on their orchard floors more as ground cover than as weeds.”

Ecological weed control methods include a combination of sheep grazing, mowers, and flame weeders.

A recent video posted by USDA’s Sustainable Research and Education (SARE) program shows why and how this philosophy in weed control is a perfect fit for the the farm. The video is part of a series from SARE highlighting ecological weed management practices used on farms across the country.
