SYSSTEM®-CAL PLAYS WELL WITH PGRS
Pairing Sysstem®-CAL and Apogee® in one application allows growth management and ensures top-quality fruit.
THE MOST CRUCIAL TIME for setting up a successful harvest — and perhaps the busiest time for apple growers is the bloom and early post-bloom period. Along with fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers, plant growth regulators (PGRs) need to be applied to thin fruit and control growth in order to maximize fruit size and quality at harvest. Calcium is a key nutritional requirement at this stage as well, because of its important role in cell division. Fewer cells mean smaller fruit — and once cell division stops and expansion begins, calcium can no longer enter the fruit cell walls.
The biggest obstacle for growers in the past is that traditional foliar calcium sprays contained calcium chloride, which has an antagonistic effect on Apogee reducing its efficacy.
Sysstem-Cal uses calcium phosphite, which is quite compatible with *Apogee®, MaxCel®, Sevin®, and Promalin® in a tank. Not only that — it’s been proven in replicated trials that it synergistic with PGRs and actually enhances fruit quality by providing a significant amount of an easily absorbed, plant-available form of calcium at the same time.
