Mike Anderson, a South Central Washington fieldman for Van Well Nursery, retired August 31 after 45 years of service with the Wenatchee, WA, fruit tree nursery firm.

A native of Wenatchee, Anderson began working for the nursery in 1968 following four years in the Navy. He began with a variety of warehouse and nursery field jobs in Wenatchee and even delivered fruit trees to growers throughout the Pacific Northwest, California, Montana, and British Columbia. In 1972 Anderson moved into sales in the Yakima area, counseling with growers concerning their individual production needs and representing the company at horticultural meetings and conventions in the region.

Company general manager Pete Van Well noted, “Not many people can say they have been with the same company for 45 years. Mike has been a loyal employee for that entire time. He moved his family to Yakima when the company asked him to, he traveled from British Columbia to California over the years for his job, and he gladly accepted any task that was required of him, from cutting scionwood to delivering trees in the spring. His dedication is inspirational and he will be greatly missed.”
