Gowan Announces Expanded Registration For Sandea Herbicide And California Registration For Gavel 75DF Fungicide

Gowan Company, LLC, has announced the expanded Section 3 federal registration of Sandea (halosulfuron-methyl) herbicide for control of broadleaf weeds and nutsedge in apples, blueberries, rhubarb, and okra. State labels are pending in Arizona, California, Florida, and New York.

When applied according to label directions, Sandea is effective on both large-seeded and small-seeded broadleaf weeds as well as purple and yellow nutsedge. Along with proven post-emergence control of key weed species, Sandea provides extended residual control of many common broadleaf weeds, including cocklebur, common lambsquarter, jimsonweed, mallow, ragweed, shepherdspurse, velvetleaf, and wild mustard.

“Sandea has been used successfully by specialty crop growers for the past eight years,” notes Gowan product manager Eric McEwen. “This expanded registration will offer growers of these additional crops a new foundation herbicide for sound weed management in their orchards and fields.”

Gowan’s Gavel 75DF fungicide, a broad-spectrum protectant fungicide for use on potatoes, tomatoes, grapes, and cucurbits, is now registered for use in California. The fungicide offers long residual control of diseases like late blight and downy mildew.

Gavel contains both zoxamide and mancozeb, each having different modes of action. The two modes of action work synergistically to arrest the development of highly mobile zoospores. Gavel is quickly absorbed into the leaf cuticle for excellent rainfastness. It also exhibits vapor action, which helps distribute its protective action over a wider leaf and stem area.
