Brussels Approves ‘Scandalous’ EU Pesticides Limits

On Sept. 24, 2009, the European Council of Ministers voted to adopt the Pesticide Authorization Regulation, reports Farmers Guardian. The new regulation changes the approval of pesticides from the risk-based approach to the use of hazard-based "cut-off" criteria.

Experts warn that Without appropriate tools to protect crops from pests and disease, the new rules will reduce crop yields and quality and increase the cost of food to consumers, with the Crop Protection Association (CPA) saying some 15% to 20% of approved crop protection products could be lost as a result.

"It is scandalous that this legislation has been passed at a time of mounting concern over food security," said CPA chief executive Dominic Dyer. “These rules are so at odds with the urgent demands placed on modern, productive agriculture that they call into question the entire EU policy-making process." Dyer said that the entire UK food chain had spoken out against the new rules, and the UK government voted against the regulation after the EU repeatedly refused to carry out an impact assessment into the new rules.

On the same day the regulation passed, the UN called for a 70% increase in agricultural productivity by 2050.

It seems to me that US ‘risk cup’ system already in use for many years is just a slightly different name for a “hazard-based “cut-off” criteria”. Yes, we have lost some potential pesticide labels, especially in specialty crops, because the ‘risk cup’ is full, and yes, some of those losses have been significant as there are few effective alternatives. Does the European system call for greater restrictions, or just level the playing field?

This is no doubt tied to the UN Act “Codex Alimentarius”. For those of you who do not know about Codex you better google it and get aquainted with it because it will soon affect every aspect of your daily life!!!
The Food Safety Act of 2009 is also tied to Codex Alimentarius. CODEX is a new Nepolianic Law (Internationally enforced by the UN and tied to the World Trade Commission also UN), not common law like we are used to.
I strongly suggest to any person who reads this to goole Codex Alimentarius and watch the youtube videos by Dr. Rima Liebow, MD to get a better understanding on how the food safety act, the clean water restoration act of 2009 (pending) and other laws about to pass in the USA are designed to put America compliant with Codex.
Codex Alimentarius is scheduled to be international law December 31,2009.
As it stands Codex is designed to KILL BILLIONS of people in the first years after it is enacted into international law!!!! Check it out now!!!!
