Latest on the Farm Bill: What To Know as It Heads to the House Floor
The House Agriculture Committee advanced the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, otherwise known as the Farm Bill, in March with bipartisan support. Now, the Farm Bill is scheduled for floor consideration the week of April 27, 2026. Reports indicate the House will vote on the Farm Bill Thursday, April 30. However, the bill faces a challenging road to fruition.
The policies in the 2018 Farm Bill no longer reflect today’s agricultural challenges. Specialty crop producers and the broader horticulture sector need updated risk management tools, stronger research investments, and modern plant health programs.
According to AmericanHort, the House Farm Bill strengthens specialty crop research, improves plant pest and disease programs, reauthorizes the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, enhances disaster assistance for tree and nursery growers, and supports innovation and automation to help address workforce challenges and keep the horticulture industry competitive.

AmericanHort is asking all industry members to contact your Representative and urge them to support the 2026 Farm Bill.
