Following a review of the results of the 2011 apple maggot survey and detection program, it has been determined that apple maggot has become established in and near Leavenworth in the Wenatchee River Valley.

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) will hold a hearing this spring in Chelan County to officially propose a quarantine and take public comment. Commercial pears will not be affected by any quarantine as they are considered non-hosts.

Apple orchards, should there be any in the quarantine area, will be trapped by WSDA to enable this fruit to move out of the quarantine area, following roadside sale or for commercial packing.
