Wilbur-Ellis Introduces New Organic Nitrogen Fertilizer

Wilbur-Ellis has launched BenVireo TerraLux 10-0-0, a liquid organic nitrogen (N) fertilizer that brings an ammonium nitrate, 100% plant-available fertilizer to organic growers for the first time. Sustainably derived and U.S.-produced, BenVireo TerraLux gives organic produce growers a source of N that is pathogen- and weed-free, while its liquid formulation offers flexible application options.

“For years, organic growers have said that they need better N solutions for their operations,” Dave Parsonson, Senior Director of Sustainable Solutions at Wilbur-Ellis, said. “We are excited to offer BenVireo TerraLux to growers as a high-quality, 100% plant-available N source. This new tool will help growers meet the growing demands and pressures of organic farming.”

Said Gina Colfer, Sustainable Solutions Agronomy Manager at Wilbur-Ellis: “One of the hardest things to manage when growing organic crops is getting N to the crop when it needs it. Organic N availability is largely dependent on mineralization. If soil is too hot or cold or too wet or dry, N can be tied up. With BenVireo TerraLux, growers can take the guesswork out of N availability, applying BenVireo TerraLux right when the crop needs it. This gives growers the ability to apply throughout the season and hopefully decrease overall soil N applications. That’s true sustainability.”

Sustainable High-Quality fertilizer

BenVireo TerraLux is developed by capturing ammonia from digestate, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Using a patented process, this waste stream is transformed into clean water and concentrated ammonia, which is then biologically stabilized into ammonium nitrate to create BenVireo TerraLux.
