“SnapDragon apples have received rave reviews from consumers due to their extra sweet flavor and crispy texture thanks to their parent, the popular Honeycrisp,” Mark Russell, marketing chairman of Crunch Time Apple Growers says. “Apples continue to be one of the most popular fruits – due in part to new varieties that offer shoppers choices. This new variety definitely stands out in the crowd and I absolutely love it.”

After a limited release in 2014, production of SnapDragon apples have grown significantly allowing for expanded marketing efforts to include high graphic bags, bins, in-store demos and social media activities with food bloggers.

SnapDragon apples, developed by Cornell University, will be available at retail in early October for a limited time and supplies are expected to last 8-12 weeks. These apples are grown by Crunch Time Apple Growers members, a grower-owned company who supports Cornell’s continued apple-breeding program. The organization is comprised of 145 grower members in the state of New York, representing about 60% of the state’s apple production.
