A Custom Fit

Operating a tractor on the steep terrain of many orchards and vineyards can be challenging. With this in mind, both Kubota and New Holland have designed new tractors that are ideal for such environments and that provide growers with versatility for various tasks around the orchard.

Three-In-One Convenience

The new L45 tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) from Kubota operates like three machines in one, combining a strong loader and backhoe with three-point implement capabilities.

The L45 can provide this type of versatility thanks to several features, including the rear axle and independent PTO, which power a variety of tools. Attachments like the multi-functional quick coupler, detachable backhoe, and rear remote hydraulic control valves can be easily mounted and exchanged on the loader, backhoe, and optional 3-point hitch of the L45.

The L45 backhoe is equipped with a 10-foot digging depth, high-performance inching valve, and a standard hydraulic thumb bracket. It also possess the ability to move at “creep” speed, courtesy of standard backhoe crawling mode, which saves time when repositioning while trenching.

Powerful Orchard Tractors

The new T4000F Series of tractors from New Holland offer power and maneuverability along a compact cab design that allows growers to use them under tree canopies and within tight tree rows.

Overall cab height on the models in the series was reduced to 85½ inches for easier travel under branches, while the width of the tractors is narrow at 58.74 inches.

The Traction Management System on the tractors automatically engages FWD when it is needed, and disengages it when it is not, giving the operator optimum traction, braking, and steering control — even on hills.

New Holland’s new TK4000 Series crawler tractors may be the solution for fruit growers who need traction for steep terrain and wet soil, the maneuverability to work in narrow rows, and the low ground pressure to work in areas where soil compaction and root zone damage present a problem.

The line is comprised of several models, with each model designed for a specific task. For maneuverability within narrow vineyard rows, look to the 76 horsepower (HP) TK4030V. It has a compact design, with a narrow width of 46.1 inches. Meanwhile, the 99 HP TK4060 is equipped to handle tillage and other implements.

The 94 HP TK4050 is available in a standard version and a mountain version. Though it has the same body as the standard version, the TK4050M (mountain version) has a wider footprint for more traction and less slippage in steep terrain. This model can operate safely on a 20% steeper slope than a wheeled tractor thanks to its low center of gravity, long track footprint, and wide track.
