Tomato Food Safety Workshop

The Florida Tomato Committee and the Florida Tomato Exchange will hold their 38th Annual Joint Tomato Conference Sept. 3-8, 2013 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, FL.

To be held Sept. 3 as part of the Joint Tomato Conference, a tomato food safety workshop will cover a variety of topics including tomato Good Agricultural Practices and Best Management Practices. The workshop is being presented by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and the Florida Tomato Exchange. 

Other topics to be covered during the workshop include the Food Safety Modernization Act final rule draft, basic microbiology for the tomato industry, and how to properly use and test irrigation water. Additional discussions will hone in on sanitation of water systems in packing lines as well as Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) project updates.

The registration fee is $50 and is due by August 28 or the cost is $60 on site.
