Online Resource For Water Management

Winning The Water War

Fruit and vegetable growers in California, and for that matter the entire U.S., have a new resource for assistance in improving their water management strategies.

The California Agricultural Water Stewardship Initiative (CAWSI) has launched an online resource center that serves as a clearinghouse of information and resources on important on-farm practices for sound water management, including managing farm water wisely, relying less on applied water, and transforming the farm into a water catchment and storage system that reduces evaporation, stores water in the soil for longer, reduces erosive runoff, and ultimately returns quality water to the basin.

The site offers detailed information on several practices, including dry farming, farm ponds, irrigation management, soil management, the use of recycled water, and more. Each section includes an overview of the practice, the associated water savings, additional benefits, applicability in different production scenarios, case studies, and additional resources.

The resource center is considered a living document, and will be updated frequently with new tips and examples from throughout the industry. Access the resource center here.

You can keep up with information from the site by signing up for a news feed, and you can also follow CAWSI on both Twitter and Facebook.
