Myriad colleges around the world today are using their own home-grown campus farms to cultivate educational and community-based experiences and opportunities in agriculture.

The simple fact that Cal Poly SLO has 10,000 acres for hands-on learning and 16 ag-related degree programs but zero mention on this list makes me question the credibility of the person who wrote it and their supporting “research.”

I agree Erin. I am a 1965 UC Davis Grad and have a grandson now at SLO, so I have had an occasion to compare them. Cal Poly SLO students spend less time learning current research activities and more applied research leading to actual employment opportunities. The actual consumer products produced by SLO students during their studies are a huge benefit to its students and community, and they are top quality. SLO deserved a high place on this list in my opinion too.

‘Best College Farms’ researched and written by someone totally oblivious of the true “learn by doing” philosophy of Cal Poly. CP should be ranked in the top 5, but it doesn’t matter because anyone that’s been there already knows this. Graduate Ag Business Management 1981.

What happened to UCa at Santa Cruz? It is one of the oldest college farms at a state institutions and one of the most student oriented.

Number 19 is not Long Beach, LB is in the city. This article is soo out of touch with reality, these college farms are a joke, back yard gardens at best. What about Cal Poly SLO and Pomona, Fresno, etc? These college farms are more in tune with commercial vegetable production, get real folks.

Hey, Joe. Don’t shoot the messenger. Just posting/reporting news relevant to the industry as it’s received. The fact this ranking is subject to such scrutiny was all the more reason to post it. This kind of item gets people talking. Perhaps Cal Poly can take/make its case to CollegeRanker.com.
