Growers, Check Your Inventory: 2012 Florida Citrus Show Extended Content Coverage

While researchers continue to make headway on the pest and disease management front, it’s important citrus growers make an investment now to ensure an industry for generations to come. In assessing the Florida nursery situation, Rucks outlined initiatives to increase production through aggressive resetting, solid sets with higher densities, a young tree care program, and new varieties with market potential.

With demand for stock at high levels, growers need to be proactive to procure profit. “Young trees are your future,” said Rucks to attendees. “I can guarantee you this: If you don’t reset trees, your production will continue to decline. Eventually, your costs will overcome your production.”
