University Of Florida Research Receives Nearly $7 Million To Fight Citrus Greening

As part of a $20.1 million federal grant for research on citrus greening, scientists at the University of Florida have received $6.7 million.

USDA awarded the grants to universities for research and Extension projects to help citrus producers fight the disease. This funding is available through the Specialty Crop Research Initiative’s Citrus Disease Research and Extension Program, which was authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill and is administered by USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

UF/IFAS researchers are working to defeat citrus greening on a number of fronts, including trying to suppress the psyllid, breeding citrus rootstock that shows better greening tolerance and testing chemical treatments that could be used on trees.

This year’s grants were broken into two disbursements: $2.8 million and $3,999,508.

The $3.999 million will focus on growing the bacterium in laboratories. It is something scientists have not been able to do thus far and is hampering research efforts. Another project at the University of Florida will develop bactericides to reduce transmission and eliminate infections in existing trees.

Science is GREAT! Love it .. I am not a scientist… just an individual who saves Citrus Trees by bringing them back to health with the application of a 100% Natural Foliar Application.. I just watch dying trees regain their health and vigor in a few months, and increase their productivity in one season.

To all Scientists… continue the quest. In the end i’ll keep on pointing to our healthy trees, and inviting Scientists, Growers, Politicians, Reporters, Packing House owners, Grove Managers, and anyone who has eyes to see, and ears to hear, that we can… and are restoring infected trees marked for destruction.

Isn’t that what the Growers need right now… not an ultimate solution which might come when they are out of business… Love Science… some of my best friends are scientifically unique as I like to remind them.. 🙂 I can spend hours talking about it…. as the many topics that fall into the Science Bucket are unlimited…

For now I will spend every waking hour taking every opportunity to inform those who’s trees are dying that they do not have to.

Like i said Science is GREAT.. We owe all Scientists a debt of gratitude. I also love Growers of our food. I would like to see the Government purchase the product and give it to the cash strapped Grower who is borrowing today for a failed crop tomorrow.. just to try to hang on. Let them apply and survive… wouldn’t that make sense to you.. It does to me… and when the Scientists have the CURE there will be an industry left to benefit from their discoveries. Cheers.

Mr. Morrison, please let me know how to get in touch with you. You can email me at [email protected].

Mr. Morrison, I too would like to correspond with you. My family owns a little piece of property in Sarasota County and have considered raising citrus instead of beef cattle. My great grandfather and grandfather were citrus growers. Thank you ahead of time for any help you can offer in regard to treatment and or prevention. Oh, my family name is Curry, not Rabinowitz.

It has been 10 years and millions of dollars spent and still quote the “U of Fl ” researchers have not found a cure for greening. But it has keep them employed. A number of years ago all of these research centers were provide with test results that proved a consortium of beneficial, non toxic , all natural microorganiums
had the ability to reverse the effects of greening. So after these many years they announce a project to develop “bactericides” to reduce transmission and eliminate infection. This product has been on the market
for the past 5 years.
